Sukhumvit is where most visitors to Bangkok sleep, but few actually explore it. This easy one-day route follows the BTS Sukhumvit Line east through three neighbourhoods, each with its own character: the lakes and boardwalks of Benjakitti Forest Park and the world-city floors of Terminal 21 at Asok, a shady park and Bangkok’s glossiest malls at Phrom Phong, and the café-and-dinner strip of Thonglor. The stations are only about 1.2 km apart, so you can walk or hop one stop at a time, and there’s room for a foot massage in the afternoon and an unhurried soak or massage before dinner.

BTS Asok, Phrom Phong and Thong Lo are each about 1.2 km apart (straight-line). Walk one leg if the weather is kind, and ride the BTS when the midday heat kicks in.
Morning: Asok
Benjakitti Forest Park
Start the day early at Benjakitti Forest Park, the large green space beside the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, a short walk from MRT Queen Sirikit or from the Asok/Sukhumvit interchange. It’s one of Bangkok’s newer parks and quite unlike the manicured lawns you might expect: wetlands, reed beds and lakes, crossed by boardwalks and elevated walkways that give you a view across the water to the Sukhumvit skyline.
Mornings are the best time to come. The light is soft, the air is still cool by Bangkok standards, and you’ll share the paths with joggers, cyclists and people out for their daily walk. Give yourself an hour or so to loop around without rushing, and bring water.
Terminal 21
From the park, head back towards BTS Asok for Terminal 21, the mall built like an airport terminal, where each floor takes on a different world city. Even if shopping isn’t your thing, it’s fun to ride the escalators up through the themes, and it’s a welcome blast of air-con after a morning outdoors.
Lunch is easy here: the food court is popular with office workers for good, cheap Thai dishes, and the mall sits right on top of the Asok interchange, so you’re back on the BTS within minutes.
Afternoon: Phrom Phong
Benchasiri Park
One stop east (or a 1.2 km walk along Sukhumvit Road), BTS Phrom Phong drops you right beside Benchasiri Park. It’s compact compared with Benjakitti, but it’s a lovely place to slow down: a pond, a traditional Thai-style pavilion, shaded lawns and a scattering of sculptures, all framed by the towers of Sukhumvit. Find a bench under the trees for half an hour and watch the neighbourhood go by.
EmQuartier and Emporium
Across Sukhumvit Road, the EmQuartier and Emporium malls are where Phrom Phong shows off. EmQuartier is known for its leafy garden atriums and the spiralling restaurant floors, while Emporium next door is the long-standing, more classic department-store side of the neighbourhood. It’s a good stop for coffee, a bookshop browse or a late lunch if you skipped the food court.
Rest your feet: a foot massage on Sukhumvit 24
By mid-afternoon your legs will have done most of the day’s work, so this is a nice moment for a break. Nature Thai Massage on Sukhumvit 24 is about 70 m from BTS Phrom Phong, straight-line, and open 10:00 to 24:00, so it fits around whatever you’ve done so far. It’s rated 4.6★ from 110 ratings, the listing mentions private rooms, and staff speak English and Chinese.
| Treatment | 60 min | 90 min |
|---|---|---|
| Foot Massage | ฿590 | ฿790 |
| Traditional Thai Massage | ฿690 | ฿950 |
| Bangkok Experience Massage (Thai + hot herbal compress) | ฿790 | ฿1,180 |
An hour of foot massage is plenty to reset before the evening. If you’ve never had a Thai massage, the Bangkok Experience Massage, a Thai massage with a hot herbal compress, is a gentle introduction.
“Good service, nice ambience, customer service is great.”

Evening: Thonglor
Wander Sukhumvit Soi 55
One more stop on the BTS (or another 1.2 km walk) brings you to Thong Lo. Sukhumvit Soi 55, better known as Thonglor, runs north from the station and is one of Bangkok’s favourite places to eat and drink. It’s lined with cafés, bakeries, cocktail bars and restaurants, many of them popular with locals and the neighbourhood’s Japanese community.
Early evening is the best time to wander: the heat eases off, the cafés fill up, and you can scout a place for dinner. The soi is long and the spots are spread out, so a motorbike taxi or a short ride up the road is normal if your legs have had enough.
Unwind before dinner: an onsen soak in Thonglor
If you’d like to end the day properly relaxed, Forest Massage & Spa Onsen is about 320 m from BTS Thong Lo, straight-line, on Sukhumvit 55. It pairs a private Japanese-style onsen soak with massage, and guests rate it 4.9★ from 115 ratings. It’s open 11:00 to 23:00.
| Treatment | Duration | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Thai Massage | 60 min | ฿500 |
| Private Onsen 1 Person | 60 min | ฿1,000 |
| Private Onsen 2 Person | 60 min | ฿1,600 |
| Onsen 60 min + Aromatherapy Massage 90 min | 150 min | ฿2,350 |
A warm soak followed by a long oil massage is a lovely way to finish a day on your feet, and you’ll still be out in time for a late dinner. If you’d rather keep it simple, an hour of Thai massage is ฿500.

If you’re heading south of Sukhumvit Road, Preme Spa is a home-style day spa on Soi Sukhumvit 36, about 210 m from BTS Thong Lo, straight-line (the listing suggests Exit 2). It’s rated 4.8★ from 78 ratings, and a 60-minute Thai Traditional Massage is ฿800. It closes at 22:00, so book an early-evening slot and have dinner afterwards.
Dinner and home
Thonglor is one of the best places in Bangkok for dinner, from Thai and Japanese to casual izakaya and late-night bakeries. Eat close to wherever you ended up, then it’s a short walk back to BTS Thong Lo.
Good to know before you go
- Start early. Mornings are the most comfortable time to be outdoors, which is why the parks come first.
- Wear shoes you can slip off. Massage shops ask you to remove shoes at the door, and many temples and some cafés do too.
- Carry a light layer. Malls, trains and massage rooms are cold after the heat outside.
- Use the BTS along Sukhumvit. Rush-hour traffic on Sukhumvit Road is slow, and one-stop BTS hops are quicker than a taxi.
- Book evening slots ahead. Thonglor gets busy in the evenings, especially at weekends, so if you want a massage, reserve a time in the morning.
- Budget for the massages. A foot massage at ฿590 plus a Thai massage at ฿500 comes to ฿1,090 at list prices; tipping is customary, see do we have to tip a masseuse, and how much?
